A Jap slapped one on my shoulders and suddenly I just couldn't move. I couldn't get one foot off the ground. It was as if my feet were screwed down. Fortunately, Lester Martin from my battery, who had become a good friend of mine during our Changi captivity and who was still as strong as a horse, pushed his way over to me and took the rice sack off my shoulders. He just hopped over the rails with it and over to the warehouse, dumped it and came back to help with others.
